It.: Il lavoro di Hyon Soo Kim elabora da anni un concetto di vita che si trasmette all’idea di maternita.
La madre ¢ un contenitore di possibilita genetiche, di trasmissione della specie, ma anche un
simbolo di speranza e di futuro. Nella serie di lavori M.A.R.LA (2003-) l’artista ha rappresentato
tutte le madri del mondo ispirandosi anche ai colori tradizionali dei rispettivi popoli. Le sculture in
bianco riprendono questa filosofia, la donna si semplifica nelle forme, diventa un vaso, qualcosa
che ha la funzione di accogliere, di contenere la vita, il futuro. Nei disegni domina ancora il bianco,
come colore della spiritualita. Il colore ¢ appena accennato, i segni neri si contrappongono per
superficie e gestualita, sempre all’interno di un equilibrio compositivo rigoroso. Tutto cid che ¢
inutile viene eliminato, l’essenzialita grafica scandisce la spazio del foglio di carta.
Il video “A Casa Rosanna” (55 min.) é stato girato a Capri presso l’abitazione della gallerista e
organizzatrice di eventi artistici, Rosanna Chiessi. La ripresa é stata rovesciata, quello che accade
attorno alla tavola imbandita, i discorsi, il cibo, il vino, sono visti da una prospettiva capovolta.
La Chiessi ha portato per la prima volta Hyon Soo Kim in Italia negli anni Novanta. Il video é una
metafora dello stare insieme, del legame che unisce le persone che amano I’arte e di come questa
cambi la prospettiva di guardare la realta.
Hyon Soo Kim é nata in Corea del Sud, ma negli anni 1984 si é trasferita in Germania, a Monaco
di Baviera dove si é laureata presso l’Accademia di Belle arti e attualmente vive e lavora. In Italia
ha esposto a Reggio Emilia nel 2005 nella Chiesa di San Pietro una mostra da titolo “To all
Mothers of the Would” M.A.R.LA., oltre 20 sculture coloratissime dedicate a tutte le madri del
mondo che ha avuto uno straordinario successo. Successivamente l’artista é stata invitata da
Daniel Spoerri a realizzare un lavoro per il Parco di scultura di Seggiano sul Monte Amiata, e ha
vinto | ottava edizione del Premio Ermanno Casoli. Ha partecipato in Italia al Premio Arte Laguna
nel 2009.
De.: Hyon Soo Kim versucht durch ihre Werke ein Lebenskonzept zu vermitteln, das eng mit der Idee
der Mutterschaft verbunden ist. Die Mutterfigur steht einerseits als beinhaltend fiir die vielen
genetischen Méglichkeiten, der Vervielfaltigung der Spezie, ist aber auch Symbol der Hoffnung
und versinnbildlicht die Zukunft. In der Werkreihe ,,To all Mothers of the Would“ M.A.R.LA.
(2003-) stellt die Kiinstlerin alle Miitter dieser Erde dar, indem sie sich auch an den traditionellen
Farben der verschiedenen Volker inspiriert.
Die Skulpturen in Weifs greifen diesen Ansatz auf. Das Wesen der Frau vereinfacht sich durch die
Form, wird zum Gefai, zum Behilter fiir Leben und Zukunft.
Auch in den Zeichnungen tiberwiegt wiederum das WeiB, Farbe der Spiritualitat. Andere Farben
sind nur angedeutet. Die schwarzen Zeichen stehen dazu im Kontrast als Oberflache und Geste,
brechen aber nicht aus dem strengen Kompositionsgleichgewicht aus. Alles Zusatzliche und
Unwesentliche wird weg gelassen, es bleibt nur das bildlich Essentielle auf dem Papier bestehen.
Das Video ,,A Casa Rosanna* (55 Min.) wurde im Haus der Galeristin und Organisatorin von
Kunstevents Rosanna Chiessi auf Capri gedreht. Die Aufnahmen wurden auf den Kopf gestellt. Das
was rund um den gedeckten Tisch geschieht, die Gespriache, das Essen, der Wein, alles steht auf
dem Kopf.
Rosanna Chiessi brachte Hyon Soo Kim das erste Mal im Jahr 2004 nach Italien.
Das Video stellt eine Metapher fiir das Zusammensein und die Verbindung zwischen Menschen dar,
die die Kunst lieben und sich tiber ihren Einfluss auf die Wahrnehmung der Realitaét bewusst sind.
Hyon Soo Kim wurde in Siidkorea geboren und zog im Jahr1984 Jahren nach Deutschland, nach
Munchen in Bayern, wo sie an der Akademie der Bildenden Kiinste promovierte und wo sie seit
Jahren lebt und arbeitet. Im Jahr 2005 stellte sie in Italien in der Kirche ,,San Pietro“ in Reggio
Emilia mit gropem Erfolg das Gesamtwerk M.A.R.LA. aus. Es besteht aus 20 farbigen Skulpturen,
die den Miittern dieser Erde gewidmet sind. Daniel Spoerri lud die Kiinstlerin ein, eine Arbeit fir
den Skulpturen-Park in Seggiano sul Monte zu realisieren. Hyon Soo Kim gewann die achte
Auflage des ,,Ermanno Casoli“ Preises und nahm im Jahr 2009 am Kiinstlerwettbewerb ,, Arte
Laguna ™ teil.
En.The work of Hyon Soo Kim has been developing since years a concept of life that is connected with
the idea of motherhood. The mother is a repository of genetic possibilities for the transmission of
the species, but also a symbol of hope and future. In the series of works “To all Mothers of the
Would” ”M.A.R.LA (2003-) the artist represented all the mothers of the world inspired by the
traditional colors of their peoples. The white sculptures resume this philosophy, the woman has
simplified shapes, becoming a vessel, something that is meant to embrace and contain life and
future. In the drawings still dominates the white as the color of spirituality. The color is barely
mentioned, the black signs are opposed as surface and gestures, always within a rigorous
compositional balance. All the useless is removed, the graphic essentiality articulates the blank of
the paper sheet.
The video „A Casa Rosanna“ (55 min.) was shot in Capri at the house of Rosanna Chiessi, gallerist
and organiser of artistic events. The images are reversed, and all the action around the table,
speeches, food, wine, is viewed in an upside down perspective.
